Robert is a co-founder and partner in Morris Kepes Winters LLP. A Canadian tax lawyer for over 25 years, Robert’s practice includes tax planning and tax dispute resolution where he represents corporations and individuals in their dealings with the tax authorities and before the courts.
Robert’s clients are generally private owner-managed companies, entrepreneurs, professionals, and high net worth individuals, both foreign and domestic. His experience includes implementation of corporate reorganizations, complex estate planning, and defence of CRA tax audits, tax shelter audits, transfer pricing assessments, penalties and director’s liabilities; tax appeals; and representation against CRA Requests, Requirements and Compliance Orders.
Robert has also successfully obtained rectification orders before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, and provided representation against CRA applications for audit-related Compliance Orders, and CRA challenges to solicitor-client privilege.
In 2013, he was qualified as an expert witness to give opinion evidence regarding tax law before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.
Robert graduated from McGill University Law School (B.C.L./LL.B. '84), and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1986. He was Chair of the Tax Section of the Ontario Bar Association (2012 – 2013), and was a Tax Instructor at the Law Society of Upper Canada for 10 years. He has presented and published regularly on tax matters for the financial, accounting and legal professions.
